What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that encourages the body to promote natural healing and aims to restore and maintain health by the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the body. Acupuncture does not conflict with other medical treatments and there is no pain on insertion of the needles.
How does acupuncture work?
The Chinese believe that channels of energy (Meridians) run in regular patterns through the body and over the surface of the skin. Meridians are like rivers flowing through the body to irrigate and nourish the tissues. An obstruction in the movement of these energy rivers is like a dam that builds and blocks other areas. Acupuncture needles unblock the obstructions and re-establish the regular flow through the meridians. Acupuncture treatments help the body’s internal organs to correct imbalances in their digestion, absorption, and energy production activities, and in the circulation of their energy through the meridians.
What benefits can be expected?
The most immediate benefits are a deep relaxation, enhanced immune & energy levels, and a general feeling of well-being. Acute problems can be treated in one session if the treatment is given as soon as the problem is detected.
Musculoskeletal conditions, if treated near the onset, can respond very quickly in 3-6 sessions. A chronic condition will take a minimum of 10 sessions.
